So Mumbai have also come up to a standard where we can say that there is possibility of an “Always On” internet connection. Right now, I am at the airport waiting for my flight to the capital city of India, New Delhi and I am online using my Orange (Hutch in other parts of India) internet connection re-directing its connection from its GPRS connection through IrDA to my Thinkpad. The speed is rather good, gets connected at around 38.4 kbps and stays closely around 28 kbps after some usage. This is cool, I can be online, browse, check mails, and do a whole lotta things even while I am traveling or going to a different city as the connection works in other cities where their connection’s are covered.
An interesting fact is that, before I came to know of this service, I had got myself another mobile connection through Reliance using their mobile phone and a data cable that connects to the USB port of a computer. In both cases, their speed are similar and have very strikingly similar browsing speed experience. I have never tried downloading any larger file(s) yet, may be I will do that once I got to the city.
Ok, for aspiring individuals who wants to try this out and is in India, you may be surprised that both are rather affordable. Orange (hutch) give you unlimited access for Rs. 499 (a little above US$10, calculated at about US$1 = INR 46, am not very sure of today’s forex rate but should be close to 46.15 or so). Reliance on the other hand charges you Rs. 0.40 per minute of your usage. So, it now depends on which telephone connection you already have or how much of usage you are looking at.

better you try for hutch connection and activate gprs (99 rs/month)in samsung c100 it work because i have the same phone and as far as using it with computer i have to that with in a month or two that is up to 2004.

Hi Pavan, If that Samsung is provided to you by Reliance or work with Reliance, then just visit one of their Reliace Web World and ask for a compatible Data Cable and they will include you a CD-KIT containing the software and alike to get you working. Unlike Orange, Hutch, BPL; they are easy to setup and have tailor made software for you.

to install your modem
goto control panel then click on phone and modem options then click on modems tab then click add then check dont detect my modem and click next again… then on the left select Samsung and click next and select the port (COM3, COM4 etc..) where you have connected your cable.. and dont forget to connect the cable before doing all this..

Hi, I am using HUTCH WWW ACCESS and connecting to Internet. My hand set is EricssonR520m - which is just RS2700. It has 4 channels max speed of (transmission rate) is 134kb/sec. It works fine. This is also having infrared,Blue Tooth and Datacable connections. Easy GPRS Settings. It saves a lot of money. Try this or any Sony Ericcson phones. I also found AirTel GPRS works much faster than Hutch. Just for info to all.

Now install infrared drivers , create a new modem manually and assign it the VIRTUAL INFRARED COM PORT , THEN create a dial up connection and set username password blank and dial - up string *99#. start ur c100 infrared using menu -> 4 -> 1 keys shortcut. ensure username password are blank and then dial the connection , it should connect. REMEMBER SOMETIMES VIRTUAL COM PORT DOES NOT SHOW IN THE DEVICE MANAGER THEN REMOVE ADAPTER FROM DEVICE MANAGER AND REINSTALL DRIVERS.

after installing drivers whn u enable infrared on c100 , xp detects it as STANDARD MODEM OVER IR LINK. so create a new dial up connection and assign this modem to it. keep user n pwd blank, dial string *99# and dial. It should connect.

I tried to connect my Palm OS PDA (Sony Clie SJ33) to the net using the Reliance connection. Since I did not have IR on my phone, I tried using the cable but failed as it needs something called a “null-modem-adaptor” which I couldn’t find anywhere in Delhi. I requested Reliance to upgrade my phone to one with IR but they refused, even though I was ready to pay the price. They suggested me to take a new connection. Sick. Finally I activated Hutch Access and using my Nokia 6100, i cruise along the internet everyday. Connection is a snap and cruising speed is amazing.

i use T310 sony ericsson with hutch GPRS AND IT GIVE ME FUL SATISFICATION OF WAP INTERNET AS I MA NOW ONLINE 24 HRS.BUT I FACE THE PROBLEM HOW TO CONNECT MY PHONE TO A COMPUTER AND HAVE GPRS ENABLED ON IT.I TRIED THE ARL DATA CABLE BUT COMPUTER DOES NOT DETECTS….ALSO IS T310 WORKING AS MODEM IF I WILL TRY TO SURF NET THRIOUGHT IT….PLS HELP…
