I was on IM with this kid;
Kid: Hey Dude
Me: Ooooh!
He was just the neighborhood boy that I helped with his high school Maths few years back and today he called me “dude”! Not only that he use lots of SMS-styled text to such exaggeration that I was finding it hard to cope up with the truncated text; he was mixing slokas; ma with the likes of u no mike. I am sure those are mixed of American and the later Australian habitual speeches.
Not only this, but there are many increasing incidents where I am taken aback with the regular heavy use of American-European-African-Asian-Indian-Hinglish mixed masala-ed Lingua Spaghetti. I am now not surprised when one of my friend said “dude” instead of “hello” on the phone.
I have neither complaints nor adjustment problem with this development around; just that I am surprised with the speed of adoption. People have IM-friends all across the world and that is one big reason for the mixed flavor.
