I won’t be surprised if Joost becomes a must have training tool for new BPO, Call-Center and OutSourching employees in India very soon.
Again! Joost is a new way of watching TV on the internet, which uses new and established technologies to provide the best of both the internet and TV worlds – with programs, channels and adverts. Joost uses secure peer-to-peer technology to stream programs to your computer. Unlike other TV and video-based web applications, it does not require users to download any files to their computers or browse through complicated websites. Of course, you need to download their Joost Client.
Btw, if you’re still not in the Joost beta, come and get your Joost Beta Entry Invite or simply leave a comment asking for the invite.
Hollywood movies have been the perfect source to learn the American way of life (at least to a large extend) and with a universal free-for-all initiative like Joost, it will all add up to be the perfect source of leading the “American Way of Living” right here in India or any other country for that matter. With Joost bringing in majority of the American channel right to your desk and laps, it shouldn’t deter any internet users from being part of the day to day American culture.
It won’t be long for Call-Center trainers to urge the new workers to watch Joost TV Channels to help serve the Americans better. It won’t be surprsing if they have telephonic talks like “So, who do you think is the killer? I will be catching up with the story after work! Btw, your toaster is on its way.” And if you are not using Joost already or not planning to yet, I strongly suggest having it to make the American-Life-inside-the-Office easier.
There was once a promising application that we helped develop (some part of the flash part) – Vongo from Starz. However, Vongo is strictly US regional and is not allowed outside of US.
Currently, the Indian TV has so much of Indian content these days that TV Channels no longer need to buy American Channels to be re-broadcasted in India again. Many of the Indian TV viewers will no longer need an excuse to stay stuck to the Indian Channels anymore, they can enjoy many American Channels through Joost totally FREE of cost.
As of now, Joost tends to be slow and jerky here in India (well there is no peer for me to peer with!). Joost is based on P2P Technology and is expected to deliver near TV quality Pictures. Joost promises to turn PC into an instant on-demand TV without any additional set top box. The current version of the software is based on XULRunner and the audio management re-uses the ZAP Media Kit. The peer to peer layer comes from the Joltid company, which also provided the peer to peer layer of Skype. The video playback utilizes the CoreCodec, CoreAVC H.264 video decoder.
