Lorem Ipsum Wordpress Theme

Lorem Ipsum is a rather plain, simple, clean, clear, white and no image Wordpress Theme. It is widget ready, 3 column and no image at all (save for the ones inside the articles).

Last Sunday, I had nothing else better to do than to stay back home and cleanse some Wordpress installations - upload files, optimize some database tables, check broken links and write some re-direct code for 404 pages on my blog. While I was on to three to four new Wordpress installations, I felt that I needed a Theme replacement for the Default Wordpress Theme. I was feeling tired of it and the new K2 Theme is overly complex for what I was looking. Despite a serious hunt, I was unable to find one that caters to my likings; so, I decided to do one myself after seeing few other themes that I somehow like but needed some more simplicity and whites.

Lorem Ipsum is a rather plain, simple, clean, clear, white and no image Wordpress Theme which I will be using it as a default Wordpress Theme for all new installation that I do. It is widget ready, 3 column and no image at all (save for the ones inside the articles).

The theme is available for preview and download at Theme Viewer too. Try it out and let me know if you find any bugs or issues.

You can always download the latest release or pick a version from the Lorem Ipsum Google CodeBase. You can also be on the bleeding edge by checking out the SVN Source anonymously from

  1. Looks great. i love simple themes too.

  2. Looks suspiciously like Blue Zinfandel Enhanced 2.0 by Brian Gardner

  3. @Scott - Yes, Blue Zinfandel was also one of the few themes that I liked and took ideas to come up with this simplified version. Of course, I love the header style so the typography is set after looking at it. I also looked at Vertigo for ideas but decided to simply it much further and have a simple footer, straight forward sidebars, et al.

Btw, if you look at it closely, the stylesheet is copied more from my own theme.

Otherwise, the CSS is written in much more compact form, taking care of things like –

    • not to put units in “0″ values as it does not have unit
    • margin, paddings and many other attributes have a shortened (combined) values
    • take care of all HTML elements that are common with Wordpress Editor
    • etc

Well, I won’t say the other people’s themes are bad but I tend to not like their writing style (most cases). All themes are pretty similar if you look around - the thing that strike are minor and small subtle difference that makes it stand out.

So, enjoy the theme. I will continue to be inspired but I will re-write stuffs so they are cleaner, shorter, faster. Oh! I forgot to mention that I wanted Lorem Ipsum to be the base with a simple framework and branch out other themes out of it. I am planning to do v8 of Brajeshwar.com from that as a base and few other sites.

Hey Scott, I saw your site, Blue Zinfandel look much prettier when you actually run it with your own contents. Again as I said, I really like the header part of it. I think I will have an article on on the Lorem Ipsum theme site to say that the header is totally inspired by Blue Zinfandel.

  4. I prefer three-column themes with the content in the middle; otherwise I rather like Lorem Ipsum. Other than that, it is very like Blue Zinfandel, which I’m currently using. I notice it doesn’t “break” with smaller windows and lower screen resulutions, though.

You can see my adaptation of Gardner’s theme here. I call it Red Zinfandel, after his.

  5. @Nicolette - I’m trying to work on a way so that a Blog admin can decide how to display the theme’s sidebar or content in the way s/he likes. It is in my To-Do list as of now. I want to take it slow though as I am bad with my work schedules - once I start something, I tend to get carried away.

  6. Thanks!

  7. And why is not pre-viewing ?
    Without a miniature very not
    comfortably :(

  8. @Literature - What do you mean by “It is not Previewing”?

You can preview it on Theme Viewer and Let’sMint is currently running that theme. If you mean the one in your Theme Presentation, there is a nice design there too.

  9. I love the Lorem Ipsum theme! It’s so clean, and as you said, it looks like a good basis to work with for creating other themes.

    Nice job (as always)!

  10. Great theme! Thanks.

Are there any considerations or special instructions to update the Lorem Ipsum theme? I currently use 1.0 and want to upgrade to 1.2.8.

  11. @Paross: It should just be a matter of over-writing the old ones with the new ones.

  12. Thank you for this nice and sleek theme Brajeshawar. I’d like to insert a logo.jpg in the header section. Could you be please so kind to tell me how to do this? Is there also a way to show only the posts preview rather than the whole article on the main page? i’m a newbie, hope someone can help. Many thanks in advance.
    David

  13. hi brajeshwar,
great theme! i installed it on my blog (prash.net), but see that all the dates on the comments of any post default to the date of the first comment. for example, all comments on http://www.prash.net/archives/2007/08/02/cheeni-zyaada/ show the date of august 2nd although when i try to edit the comments, the date in the database is different.
weirdly, the time alone seems to be correct, but the date seems to have an issue.
    any fix for this?
    -prash.
