Dynamic background color

Tuesday, February 18th, 2003 at 5:20 pm

Peter Hall posted a solution to setting the background color using Actionscript, actually drawing a rectangle on the background below any other elements on the document. Someone on the Macromedia Flash Forum re-iterated that question, so I thought some of you may still would like to have a look at a modified version.

This one will only fill the viewable stage and not the whole maximum allowable space of 5760 px of the Flash Document Scene. Code follows in the full message.

//define a var for sh and sw
//let us add 2 px each as …

w.bloggar v3.00

Friday, February 14th, 2003 at 8:00 am

I am using w.bloggar v3.00 for blogging straight from my desktop. Everything else is cool and can “Post and Publish” on Blogger, b2, MovableType, Nucleus, BigBlogTool, BlogWorks XML Blogalia and Drupal blogs. But the only thing that I find it lacking is that of the ability to do the Extended Entry for Movable type. Anybody have any idea, please suggest me an alternative tool or a way to add inside w.blogger. That would be damn too great.

Place all your codes in one place

Friday, February 14th, 2003 at 7:56 am

This would rather be an old one for many but seeing many files that people send me to have a look into and help clear some problems, and the way they still code the old Flash 5.0 way, I would like to suggest this small tip for Flash MX. Always place your codes on the main timeline (_root) preferably on a single layer dedicated to Actionscript. Of course, it was not possible in the pre-Flash MX days, but now we can reference any object from the main timeline. Let us stop the bad habit of putting codes on the MCs …

Flash as a Tool for Web Application Development

Monday, February 10th, 2003 at 2:18 am

There is a good article worth reading at Win Writers about Flash being widely used and accepted as a Tool for Web Application Development.
“Despite the slowed economy and IT cutbacks, the drive toward web-based applications continues to have enormous momentum. The software industry, in general, is lured by the Web’s ubiquitous connectivity. IT departments are enamored with the potential for controlling deployment costs. The set of standards developed by the World Wide Consortium (W3C) has certainly changed the software landscape in a very short time.”

Beautiful world

Saturday, February 8th, 2003 at 2:54 am

In actuality, I have not been very well with my health for the past few days and things have been worst yesterday and today. I am unable to sit in front of the computer for long, feeling sorta dizzy/uneasy and weak, so taking rest more often than working. At this very juncture my only connection with the other world besides the internet got into some trouble again, my nokia 8310 somehow started mis-behaving and I am totally out of touch. While watching an old movie, “Hot Shot” and relaxing, I just browse some sites which I always had a great respect for and admire the same. And yes, I updated my site yesterday as I was unable to sleep and was feeling uneasy, I just cook up this front page, I am not sure when will I be able to complete the other parts, the opensource, flash interface and all the other features that I am planning to have on my site, which got successfully moved to (mt) media temple with Flash Remoting enabled, hoping to play with Flash Remoting and the blog is now fully powered by Movable Type. Thanks to Benjamin Trott for installing Movable Type for me, I am afraid of all those cgi and perl stuffs, so I went in for a installation request from them. The comments are gone for the moment but I will put them slowly and steadily by myself manually.

Escape Character

Friday, January 10th, 2003 at 7:30 pm

I was using escape character for dynamic text field for some of my contents for a project and instead of looking around for characters and their escaped character values, I just did a simple thing using flash itself, check it out yourself and if you like it, click here to view it online, or download just the .swf format / zip format, a windows projector format or a Mac projector format. Some features like minimize and close may not work on all platform while the real functionality still works, the …
