Flash isn’t a mere third-party application, like a game or an instant-messaging client. It’s a plug-in that would have to work very closely with Safari on the iPhone, and that’s something Apple has declared off-limits to third-party developers at this time unless they get a hall pass.

So in theory, you might one day edit the images of an XFL file directly in Photoshop without disturbing the timeline information also contained in that file. Or you might be able to import a page from a word processing document into a Flash presentation.

An attack scenario — A bank website hosts marketing graphics in the form of a vulnerable Flash applet. Attackers who trick a customer into clicking on a malicious link are able to execute the SWF file and inject malicious code variables that cause the customer’s authentication cookies or login credentials to be sent to the attacker.

I regularly hear people claim, incorrectly, that to use ActionScript 3.0, you have to know object-oriented programming, or every variable’s datatype must be declared, or everything has to be in packages and classes.
