Maker of Zinc, Multidmedia welcomes Open Source Flex

Zinc MacMultidmedia Limited the creators of Flash based development software Zinc released a Press Release stating their welcome embrace of Open Souce Flex, “any step towards supporting the open source community has got to be a step for the good.”

  1. I've seen this posted to a couple of blogs, but I don't see what's the news here.

Flex is a compiler that produces SWF files. Zinc is a product that converts SWF files into standalone executables by wrapping up the SWF with the Flash runtime and some more runtime stuff to break out of the Flash sandbox.

The status of Flex (or any other SWF maker) as open or closed source doesn't affect Zinc one way or the other, as Zinc's big dependency is the Flash player.

  3. @John, very true. I think that is what everybody is saying! All tools have their rightful specific usage.

  5. So, MDM is saying nothing but passing along Adobe's news. How is that MDM news? If it related to them, they sure didn't explain that. Talk about riding someone else's wave.
